Services

Hei Hei Health Centre is committed to providing Better, Sooner, More Convenient Care. We provide a large range of services locally that in the past might only have been provided in hospital. By its nature, this is not a comprehensive list so if the service you need is not listed, please call us and ask.

Repeat Prescription without consultation

Repeat prescription without consultation is a service we offer to enroled patients only.

In appropriate circumstances we may be able to provide you with a prescription without seeing you.

Reports and Consulting (per 15min or part)

We have many skills at Hei Hei Health Centre and one of those is the production of complex reports for insurance, lawyers or simply to help your business grow.

These are not subsidised services and are billed at our full rate in 15 minute blocks, with a minimum of 15 minutes.  We are happy to advise you of how long a request is likely to take and to give you an indication of the fee.  Sometimes this may be more or less than is actually charged, depending on the particular circumstances.  Any indication of fee given is an estimate only.

Blood Tests

Our nurses can take blood for most laboratory tests. Blood testing is usually simple. Blood is normally taken from the inside of your elbow (the ante-cubital fossa in medical terms) so make it easy by wearing clothing that allows your elbows to be exposed easily! Though you may have a small bruise after your test, you should be able to return to work immediately afterwards, pretty much whatever work you do. Bruising is made less by applying gentle pressure on the needle site for five minutes after the test. We charge a small fee towards the nurse's time.

Smoking Cessation

We are passionate about helping you to make the move to a smoke-free lifestyle and to prove it, our nurse-led service is FREE.

If you would like to discuss smoking cessation, just make an appointment with one of our nurses. There is no charge for their support, advice or nicotine patches, gum or lozenges.

If the nurse and you decide that you might benefit from a prescription medication then we will also write your prescriptions FREE.

Travel Clinic

Travel advice with our nurses and the added bonus of vaccines at our lowest possible prices.

If you are heading overseas, plan ahead and make sure you get the very best advice.

Our nurses are experts in helping you to decide what precautions, vaccines and medications you may need to take before or whilst you travel. As most vaccines need a minimum of two weeks to become fully effective, we strongly recommend that you book your travel clinic at least 4 weeks, and preferably 12 weeks before you fly.

Please note that if you need vaccines:

Liquid Nitrogen

Liquid Nitrogen is cold. Seriously cold. -196 degrees celcius in fact. It is used to treat a number of skin conditions including: Warts and Verrucas Actinic Keratosis Seborrhoeic Keratosis Some Basal Cell Carcinomas. During treatment, liquid nitrogen is sprayed directly onto your skin, causing the skin layers to freeze. Ice crystals forming in cells destroy them, causing the unwanted tissue to die. Sometimes there is blistering, but often just a hard scab forms which peels off after a few days to a couple of weeks. Liquid nitrogen therapy is mildly uncomfortable.

Spirometry

Spirometry is a thorough test of the function of breathing.

A machine is used to check a number of lung measurements. All of the tests involve nothing more complex than taking a deep breath and blowing as hard and as fast and as long as you can into a plastic tube. Sometimes we will ask you to repeat the test after inhaling some salbutamol (Asthma blue inhaler).

It is important that you try your hardest during the test, even if you feel a bit silly - the results and how we use them do depend on assuming you give it your best effort.

Minor Surgery

We have a high quality minor surgical facility in our Treatment Suite. We can remove moles, cysts, lumps and bumps from most parts of the body, including the face, scalp and neck. First, the surgeon marks your skin to show where cuts are to be made. Next the skin is cleaned with antiseptic, usually chlorhexidine. Most of our surgery requires you to have a local anesthetic. In almost all cases, this is injected directly into the skin where the operation is to take place. This stings a little but the discomfort does not last long.

ECG

An Electrocardiogram is used to create a tracing of your heart's electrical activity. It is also known as an EKG, especially in the United States. ECGs are usually performed by our nursing staff. We use disposable adhesive pads which are attached to your chest, arms and lower legs. These areas will need to be exposed and hairy chests may need to have a few small patches shaved. Wires are attached to the pads, which help our machine record 12 different variations on the heart electrical activity.
